When I lauded the idea of Representatives being chosen from single-member
districts to keep them close to their constituents, I should have
stipulated that it's only good if we use some of the gerrymander-proof
redistricting methods discussed on the list recently.  Otherwise these
districts let politicians pick voters, destroying any real political
competition.
