I think I will take this opportunity to propose the "Majority Opposition"
criterion. I think it's easy to use, guarantees much, and also, it's awkward to
discuss "the criterion that is sort of like what Steve Eppley said."
And I can clarify the wording I used in the message to James Green-Armytage.

"Majority Opposition" criterion:
The voter must be able to vote for any number of candidates.
If more than half of the voters vote for X, but don't vote for Y, then
Y can't win.

By "vote for" I refer to doing something other than ignoring the candidate
on the ballot. It's implicit that "doing something" with some candidate means
a better status than not doing anything.

(By the way, I mean the term "opposition" in the sense of the opposition
totals you would have if you took votes for and nothing else (no rankings)
to create approval ballots, and from there a pairwise matrix.)

Essentially this criterion is Minimal Defense or SDSC. But "MO" is
based on cast votes only, and isn't inherently failed by methods that
don't allow complete strict ranking. (E.g., Approval passes MO, and
I believe 3-slot MMPO passes it.)

I feel this type of criterion is interesting and important because
it's easier to work with and satisfy than weak FBC. Consider that you
are free to vote A>B>C>D>E>F>G>H>I>J>K, no matter who those candidates
are, and if a majority vote for K but not L (like you), you're no worse
off for having voted for so many loser candidates: L can't win.

Of course I welcome any thoughts on this.

One thing I'm trying to do now is establish whether Majority Opposition
is compatible with LNHarm. (I know these two are not compatible with
Plurality.) MMPO, strictly-ranked, fails MO. With only three slots,
I believe MMPO satisfies MO, but then it doesn't really satisfy LNHarm
anymore. So close, but it's not quite enough.
