Now I bet that Demorep thinks two years is two too many for a minority
approved candidate. But do we have any assurances that the legislature
won't pick somebody WORSE? We don't, really. In times of severe
factionalism, the best you can hope to do is elect the candidate with the
broadest support, and hope that a more popular candidate emerges
soon. Otherwise, you risk turning the entire election procedure into a
farce during periods like this.

D- Collect on your bet.
ONE SECOND in office for a minority elected extremist U.S.A. President
(potentially power-mad -- like a Hitler clone or Stalin clone) is ONE SECOND
too much.
How lunatic has Ventura been in Minnesota ???
Several southern States once upon a time had the State Legislatures electing/
appointing a Governor if no Governor candidate got a majority of the popular
votes -- this happened several times and the States seemed to have survived.
There is NO person who can get a majority YES vote in a legislative body for
a high office (IF the legislative body is elected via p.r.) ???
Give me (and reason) a break.
In the meantime, Approval Voting will suffice.
Many folks will vote for their favorite left/ right extremist as well as a
*dull* compromise (who likely will be elected).
The sun will continue to rise each day.
If there is a majority YES requirement, then more voters will likely make
more choices -- their desired choices plus *compromise* choices.
Otherwise-- the same old plurality regimes will continue.
The power of the Electors to have recall elections should be another safety
valve in place in all governments.
Sorry but minority rule, direct or indirect, is ultra-dangerous oligarchy
(with even more ultra-dangerous tendencies towards monarchy).
How many oligarchy/ monarchy regimes are in the Middle East (posing a direct
threat of World War III) ???
