Demorep asked:
D- Who, if anybody, with all the strategy / insincere machinations has a YES
majority ???
I reply:
With the winning-votes methods, a candidate with a majority against
him is at a big disadvantage, as described in the definitions of
the defensive strategy criteria met by the wv methods. He's easily
kept from winning.
But a candidate
with a majority against him will do just fine in the margins methods.
One other thing, about the machinations: As we discussed, Gibbard &
Satterthwaite, I've been told, have shown that all nonprobabilistic
methods have situations in which someone can benefit by strategy.
So it's a question of how bad you want the strategy problem to be.
I've told of a number of reasons why Approval & wv don't have as
bad a strategy problem as do IRV & the margins methods.
