Candidate Hager writes:

My expectation is

that, based upon the regional data, the top 3 would have been Lincoln,

Douglas, and Bell. In the real election, the top 3 EV winners were

Lincoln, Breckenridge, and Bell. Split vote seemed to kill Douglas in

both the free and slave regions of the country. (Douglas was demonstrably

the only candidate with broad national support. Bell was clearly

acceptable nationally, but his support was weaker than Douglas'.)

D- About 620,000 folks died as a direct result of the 1861-1865 U.S.A. Civil
War with tens of thousands more maimed for life -- no hands, arms, legs,
eyes, etc. -- with multi-millions of dollars of property destruction.

Regardless of such death and destruction, the rotten- to- the- core
*politicians* since 1860 have kept the rotten- to- the- core Electoral
College (regardless of its potential for another Civil War).

Reviewing the ANTI-Democracy evils of the past has limited interest in the
brains of the public -- one only need look at the 2000 ANTI-Democracy
minority rule gerrymander results for U.S.A. President.

U.S.A. PRESIDENT MINORITY RULE MATH, NOV. 2000 ELECTION

50 GERRYMANDER STATES AND D.C. --- 538 GERRYMANDER ELECTORAL COLLEGE VOTES -
4 YEAR TERM

EV = ELECTORAL VOTES

    VOTES PCT TOT EV

 27,773,762 26.30* 271 BUSH WIN 30 STATES
-----------------------------------------------------
 50,996,062 48.29 266 D - Note 1
 50,456,169 47.78 271 R
  4,141,789 3.55 0 OTHER/NONVOTES - Note 2
105,594,020 100.00 537 TOTAL - Notes 1,2

Note 1 - 1 D Elector did not vote for the D candidate, 538 total EV

Note 2 - Only MA, NY and NV reported all votes (blanks, overvotes) so the
actual number of Voters in the other 47 States and DC was higher -- so the
minority rule percentage was a bit lower.

The so-called Electoral College for electing U.S.A. Presidents is due to the
failure to get a uniform definition of elector/ voters in the now ancient
1787 top secret Federal Convention which proposed the U.S.A. Constitution.

A political monstrosity (aka compromise) was devised -- 1 President elector
for each U.S.A. Representative seat (now 435) and U.S.A. Senator seat (now
100 - 2 in each of the 50 States) --- plus 3 for D.C. later (23rd Amendment)
-- total 538 in 2000.

The obvious remedy -- a uniform definition of elector/voter in U.S.A.
elections. Abolish the Electoral College. A *Democracy* method for electing
U.S.A. Presidents (and other elective U.S.A. officers).

The small *politician* brains in the small States just love having their
above average POWER to control U.S.A. government politics regardless of any
disasters that have happened, are happening or might happen in the future.

TOTAL POLITICAL MADNESS (especially in view of a U.S.A. President's de facto
power to create World Wars -- depending on how crazy he or she may be) --
nothing new in the long history of oligarchy / monarchy political structures
that have caused many regimes to collapse in the last 5,000 plus years of
recorded political history

There have been Electoral College crises recently in 1960 (stolen election in
Illinois), 1968 (due to Mr. Wallace), 1992 (due to Mr. Perot) and 2000 (due
to the State government idiots in Florida).

The political alarm bells are ringing but the know-it-all *politicians* are
politically deaf, dumb and blind.
