Since that isn't a serious nomination, I won't name it among the
nominations. Also, it's contrary to accepted standards of list manners,
which disqualifies it.

But it still influences the nomination list, because I'd intended
today to withdraw my nomination of List Conduct Petition.
Now I'm going to leave that nomination.

Don is the list misconduct perpetrator on EM. As this posting of his
demonstrates, Don gets off the subject of voting systems and onto
the discussion of list members. That has no place on a list whose
purpose is to discuss voting systems.

Actually, should the List Conduct Petition win as the poll topic,
my proposal will be that no longer does anything go.

"Us"? Wrong, Don, I've called _you_ names.

Are you saying that you consider "IRVie" to be an insult? Sure, in
the past I've also called you a twit & a fruitcake. But I've done so
in passing, in a reply. You, on the other hand, discuss
individuals to a degree that goes far beyond the scope of a list that's
intended only for discussing voting systems. Do you understand the
difference? Often all or most of your posting is about a list member,
whereas I merely refer to you as a twit or a fruticake in passing,
while commenting on a posting of yours.

But here's a more important difference: I've only called you a twit
or a fruitcake when you'd been expounding at length about other members
of this list, in an attempt at comedy. I claim that my characterization
of you as a twit & a fruitcake is so well justified by your postings,
particularly the ones that occur just before I use those names, that
that hardly counts as namecalling.

But this situation strongly underscores the importance of the
List Conduct Petition as a polling topic. If we're going to do a poll,
why not do it on something of practical relevance to the list?

I suggest voting the List Conduct Petition in 1st place in the poll.

> This will be the best topic to vote on because we will have our

>involved.

Don, I don't think other people's emotions are quite like yours.

>type of pizza topping or ice cream is the most popular, as long as we can
>still go out and purchase the topping or ice cream we each prefer, the
>election will mean nothing.

You're missing the point. Sometimes people _do_ have to make a social
choice about which pizza topping or ice-cream flavor to get.

But I do claim that an issue of actual practical relevance to the list
is the best polling topic, and that's List Conduct Petition.

I'm going to vote "Single Winner Voting Systems" in 2nd place.
