The style can be also "write the number of your favourite candidate
on the ballot paper".

Yes, regular people should understand ranking easily. (The ballots
may be a bit more complex than the basic idea since that may e.g.
include numbering the candidates or putting marks in matrixes etc.)
Hopefully the voters will also have the option to bullet vote or rank
only few candidates. There may be voters that are too "lazy" to
perform a more thorough analysis of the candidates.
