I certainly wish Mr. Smith well in his effort, and I've joined that list
and will support it, but just to put things in perspective, the Approval
Voting mailing list has been going for about two years and has about ninety
subscribers, a good number of which are on bouncing status. Which often
means the email address is dead.
There is also a wiki that has been started, http://av.beyondpolitics.org.
This is the wiki of the Approval Voting Free Association, an FA/DP
organization for all those interested in Approval Voting. Approval Voting
is a special case of Range Voting and the wiki can be used for all topics
related to AV, which Range certainly is. The wiki has little content yet,
but it *is* open for business, anyone can register and add content easily.
In addition, because it has developed that the Approval Voting mailing list
moderator has begun rejecting relevant posts, a metalist was started,
AVFA at yahoogroups.com, as a place to post material related to Approval
Voting, Approval Voting politics, or to any other post accepted on the AV
list, but the post is not accepted by the moderator at the AV list.
This list was not started in an attempt to compete with the main AV list,
but as a supplement, allowing those readers who want the narrow focus and
moderator opinion of the original list to simply continue to subscribe to
it, while allowing other readers interested in a wider point of view to
read more widely. Because of this relationship, please do not cross-post to
both lists. It is assumed, for the time being, that most or all subscribers
to the AVFA will also subscribe to the AV list.
The AVFA list may be used as a primary place to post at the choice of the
writer, and especially if the writer is banned from the AV list. Being an
operation of the AVFA, the AVFA list is subject to rules as established by
the AVFA through its process; currently there are no rules other than a
suggestion that posts be relevant to Approval Voting in some way.
To subscribe to any yahoogroups list without using the web interface, you
can send an email to (for these two lists):
RangeVoting-subscribe at yahoogroups.com
AVFA-subscribe at yahoogroups.com
and follow the instructions in the validation mail. To become a "member" of
the "group," you have to use the web interface, but simple subscription can
be handled entirely by email.
