I don't like it as much as the original, at least not in its current form.  
Interesting nonetheless.

If you really need the ability to enter more values than just the 6 (allowing 
for a full ranking without forcing some equal), I would suggest more 
conventional sliders, with in-between floating point values (like 4.234) 
rather than integers with no top or bottom value (like 146).

I have some sliders I've worked on getting really slick for a different 
project, maybe they can be adapted for this (all I did was change the captions 
on them to be presidential candidates):
