The count is less complicated than you might think.  And in any case, the STV-PR
count is a very small price to pay for more representative democracy.

In UK public elections nearly all the votes are recorded on paper ballots.
Manual sorting and counting does not take an unreasonable time, and there are
computer programs now available to help with the arithmetic.  In Ireland, they
have used a
computer-only system in one district in the last general election, with great
success.
