I haven't yet checked all the e-mail in the discussion with Mike
Saari, but I hope that it's been pointed out to him that CR is popular
on EM, and that we don't need any convincing to like CR.

Because CR is strategically equivalent to Approval, and because
Approval is so much easier to implement, and is such a modest
departure from Plurality, most of us consider Approval a better
public proposal. But there's also the fact that CR is more familiar
to most people, and that could count decisively in CR's favor.
So far I'm for Approval as the public proposal, because, though
many seem to misunderstand it, their objections are easily answered.

Here's a puzzle question. How can a group of 20-50 people make collective
decisions on various subjects - WITHOUT the use of a chairperson (benevolent
dictator) to "control the meeting", decide when is the "right time" to call
for a vote, etc.? The current methods are stifling to the various members
who have good ideas but can't bring them to a vote. I believe it can be done
and done well - but the current system as currently re-defined needs to be
field-tested to know for sure.

I reply:

I've always preferred the idea of chairless meetings and chairless
organizatins, and I
believe that they're perfectly workable, given a good democratic
structure. Of course the initial votes on that structure have to
be made before the structure exists, which can be challenging, but
not impossible.
