Finally, something I can agree with!

As a practical matter, both statements are correct.  When the voter's
favorite is a frontrunner, then all others will generally have negative
strategic value.  Depending on how clear the frontrunner status of the
top two, of course.

Does your definition of 'name calling' extend to comparisons with WWII
Nazi officials?
