To my opinion, Steve Eppley's JITW (= just in time withdrawal)
option introduces more problems than it solves. I consider his
IBCM method lousy because it doesn't even meet monotonicity.
And his MTM (= minimize thwarted majorities) heuristic for
Ranked Pairs is rather a worsening than an improvement because
his MTM heuristic violates independence from clones and has a
super-polynomial runtime.
Nevertheless, I have the impression that Steve Eppley tries to
write mails of value. He has made many important contributions
to this mailing list (e.g. his algorithm to calculate the Smith
winners). He usually tries to understand the arguments of his
opponents. And he is able to give credit for ideas he considers
promising.
That Steve Eppley gets insulting from time to time rather
exemplifies Blake Cretney's observation that the rude behaviour
of a certain member of this mailing list also makes the other
members ruder and ruder.
