Elections regarding public offices and issues are obviously subjective.

I beat the dead political horse some more --

Desired (liberal, conservative, etc.) > Compromise > Unacceptable 
(conservative, liberal, etc.)

For lots of folks the sequence is reversed.

Determining the *value of each outcome* is rather difficult.

What is the value / social utility of a Hitler, a Stalin or a Washington in a 
public office ???

The *laws* of physics, chemistry, etc. are obviously objective (regardless of 
the opinions of human folks) -- thus the rise of the *scientific method* 
since the Middle Ages for the deciphering of mother nature.
