I shall apply the Adding Choices (6 Mar 2000) and clone info to the 40-25-35
example below.
----
What is an Irrelevant Alternative? [from Arrow/IA/IIAC]
According to Arrow, an irrelevant alternative is any that does not
win. For example, in the following example,
40 A B C
25 B C A
35 C B A
--
40 AB
60 BA
The 60 majority is split when C is added.
--
65 BC
35 CB
The 65 majority is split when A is added.
--
40 AC
60 CA
The 60 majority is split when B is added.
--
Which is the highest head to head majority (and thus the most likely correct)
? 65 BC (with C being the most likely clone) Duh ?
I suggest that the only irrelevant alternatives are those that are beat head
to head by each other choice (aka Condorcet loser(s)).
The above applies with 4 or more choices in a circular tie.
The current Saari/Borda flap is a total distraction.
